Body
Spent a while sitting by the lake without catching much. My back was fine until I stood up, then I had to stay still for a few seconds before carrying the gear up to the cottage. The walk helped. It was cool enough for a jacket in the shade and warm in the sun, so I kept taking it off and putting it back on. Had lunch outside and felt pleasantly tired afterwards, though I hadn't done much that would count as work. Karen wanted to go for another walk. I went, and by the time we got back the stiffness was mostly gone. Slept well that night. Better than after a day at the desk, even with the same number of hours sitting in parts of it.
Emotion
Our daughter got impatient with fishing and wanted to spend the afternoon looking for stones instead. I'd been looking forward to showing her a few things, so I was disappointed, more than the situation deserved. She was having a good time, just not doing the thing I'd chosen. I put the rods away and watched her bring the stones over one at a time. She had names for some of them and a complicated reason why one was the best. That was pretty good too. Karen asked later if we'd caught anything and our daughter showed her the stones like that had been the plan. I still would have liked to fish a bit longer, but it was a decent afternoon.
Mind
My brother-in-law wants to change the dock boards all at once instead of replacing the few bad ones. I started thinking he was making a small job expensive, then looked at the photos and couldn't remember which boards we'd changed last time. I remember agreeing to do them, not actually doing them. That complicates the argument. I'll need to check when we go out there, because neither of us seems to have kept track. I don't mind paying for work that needs doing. I mind discovering that we both thought the other had done it already. The cottage is shared for good reasons, but a photograph with a date would be useful before our next discussion about whose memory is better.
