Mind
Opened one drawer of Mother's dresser. Planned to make three piles and be done before lunch. Found spare buttons, a receipt for a vacuum cleaner she no longer owned, and an envelope of photographs with no names on the back. The receipt was easy. The photographs took the whole morning. I recognized a truck before I recognized the man leaning on it. Thought I remembered that trip accurately; apparently I have been putting the wrong year on it. Wrote what I was certain of on a separate sheet. No point turning guesses into labels. Drawer is still open, three piles have become five, and the room is not measurably improved.
Emotion
My granddaughter sent a picture of a shelf she put up herself. I enlarged it to check whether it was level before saying anything. Then I noticed her grin in the mirror behind it. Told her it looked good. It did. She sent back three hearts, which seems excessive payment for four words. I was tickled anyway. Almost asked what anchors she had used. Left it alone until she brought up the installation herself. I like being asked about a thing I know. I also liked the first picture, before there was a question attached. Kept looking at it while the television talked to itself.
Body
Pool league. Knee tolerated the first two games better than expected. I changed my stance for the longer reach shots instead of bending farther over the table. Not pretty, but the balls do not award points for appearance. Right thumb stiff around the cue at first, then loosened. Wore the hearing aids and could make out the woman at the next table without reading her mouth. Took them out after getting home and the kitchen seemed enormous and quiet, except for the usual ringing. Sat with my leg up. A decent evening's use of the equipment. Getting out of this chair will be the next inspection.
