Body
Had a hit at cricket and ran the first one like I was still twenty. Got to other end puffing and bloke asked if I needed a drink. Needed him to shut up mainly. Legs were fine after a bit, just takes longer to get going now when I've been standing round waiting to bat. Was good being out there with sun on my arms instead of work sleeves. Got home and sat on floor with the boy, started feeling it across the thighs then. He wanted me to stand up and sit down every time his toy crane moved. Told him crane driver was on smoko. Stayed there till wife stepped over us with the washing.
Mind
Looking at bigger tents again even though ours fits if we leave half the gear in the ute. Hard part is working out which half, wife says clothes need to stay inside and boy needs every toy he owns. Tried marking new tent size on lawn with bits of timber. Looks bloody enormous without the roof. I can see us buying it then finding usual campsite too narrow, so ought to check that first. Also means folding more wet canvas when it rains. Might set old one up this weekend and see what actually goes where. Son wants to sleep out there, saves us driving anywhere I suppose.
Emotion
Old kelpie actually chased the ball twice this arvo. Usually watches it land then looks back at me like I've lost something. Boy was cheering so loud she came straight back to him instead, dropped it on his feet. Made me pretty happy seeing that, both of them pleased with the same muddy ball. I threw a shorter one after and she left it there. Fair enough. Son reckoned she was being naughty, I said she's old mate, let her sit with us. We stayed outside till tea was ready and he kept one hand on her back, which she seemed to like. Good arvo, didn't get lawn done.
