Mind
Daughter is comparing Manchester courses and I keep looking at accommodation costs before I've read what she'll actually study. Sensible, obviously, but she pointed out that I had put a cheaper place higher on my list despite it being farther from everything she needs. I had counted rent and forgotten travel. Not like me. Went back through it with her and asked which bits of the course she was interested in. There were things I'd never heard of. She explained without making me feel stupid, which I appreciated and did not say. We now have two columns instead of one. Still expensive. A better spreadsheet has not changed that.
Body
Shutter down. Sat on the step stool and took the weight off my left leg for a change. Didn't realise how much I'd been leaning until I stood squarely on both feet and the right one felt almost unused. Shoulder pulling after the last delivery, nothing dramatic, just awkward to get my cardigan off. Husband offered to carry the bag home. Said it wasn't heavy, then gave it to him because that wasn't actually the point. Three streets felt longer tonight. At home I put my feet up while the daughter told me about school. Mother-in-law brought tea without requesting a reason for the sitting. An unexpectedly efficient household for once.
Emotion
Dad came in and watched a customer ask me about a parcel problem. Nothing unusual, sorted it, served the next person. Afterwards he said people know they can come here. Not that the shop was better, not well done, just that sentence while he checked the newspapers. I was quite chuffed. Annoying how little it takes when it's him. Wanted to tell my husband but it sounded less important once I said it out loud, so added the day's takings as supporting evidence. He said he'd heard the important part the first time. Dad still moved the crisps before leaving. Apparently public confidence and snack placement are separate measures of success.
