Mind
new lad asked how i know a shed sounds wrong before ive walked through it. told him you listen. not much of an answer apparently. been trying to think what i actually hear first. sometimes its a gap where a noise ought to be and sometimes the birds sound different from yesterday. i know which end to go to without having put it into words. he wants to learn so thats fair enough. tomorrow ill stand with him at the door a bit longer instead of going straight in. cant show him every sound in one morning. took me more than one morning and there werent anybody writing a list for me.
Emotion
grandson saw the fishing gear in the shed and said it was ours. not mine. ours. daughter says he calls everything his at the minute but i liked that. showed him the little rod i got him and he wanted to go immediately although it was nearly tea time. said another day when his mum can come as well. he sat on the shed step holding it a while. had to remind him it wasnt for poking the fence. after they left i put it beside mine where he could see it next time. wife asked if i was pleased with my visitor. all right i said. had quite a bit to tell her about it as it turned out.
Body
not bad down the river. sat on the same seat with the flask and kept both feet flat instead of tucking one under like i do at home. knee easier that way. sun came round after a bit and warmed the backs of my hands. been cold first thing at the sheds all week so that suited me. got up twice to stretch my legs. back stiff first few steps then all right. didnt catch much. didnt feel like packing up either. by the time i got home i was hungry enough for tea and could have gone straight to sleep after. wife said i had been sitting all day. not the same sitting.
