Body
Put on an old cardigan at home and discovered I'd been holding my stomach in all day under a perfectly respectable blouse that was evidently doing none of the work itself. The relief when I unbuttoned it, God help us. Made tea and sat sideways on the sofa with my feet up, the cat immediately assuming I'd prepared the arrangement for him. I could feel the mark of my shoes even after I'd taken them off, but after a while the toes stopped curling as if the shoes were still there. Was meant to put a hem up tonight. The machine can wait until the cat has finished enjoying my evening.
Mind
I'm trying to remember which dress a customer wore to her daughter's wedding because she wants something entirely different for the son's, and I can see the jacket clearly but not what was underneath. She's certain it was blue. I remember green. We spent ten minutes confidently describing two different weddings before she mentioned the rain and I realised I was thinking of her sister. Same height, very different husbands, I should have placed it sooner. Now I keep seeing that green outfit whenever I look at the new stock. I've asked her to bring a photograph. We'll let the camera settle the family history.
Emotion
The little grandson took one look at me on Sunday and said I hadn't got my red mouth on. I'd been doing things in the kitchen and hadn't put on lipstick. Thought he was going to tell me I looked strange, but he asked if he could kiss me without getting it on him and came straight over. I was delighted, though naturally I told him I wasn't charging for kisses on other days either. He'd apparently been considering the transfer problem for some time. Sent the story to the family afterwards and got more replies than any photograph of him in his good clothes. There's gratitude for a carefully chosen outfit.
