Mind
The new bowls fixture list has two matches on the same date, which initially struck me as a straightforward error. I checked last year's list and began composing a note to the secretary before noticing that one was for a team I do not captain. Perfectly possible to hold two matches, therefore, provided the people are different. I deleted the opening paragraph. The layout remains unhelpful, however; team names ought to be more prominent than the venue. I shall suggest that instead. My wife considers the matter resolved now that I understand it. That rather overlooks the next person who may read it incorrectly.
Emotion
My grandson rang to ask whether I still had an old photograph of the control room. I was very pleased to be consulted and had the album out before he finished explaining what he needed. He wanted a picture for a school presentation, not a complete history, although a little context is indispensable. I selected three and offered to describe them. He said he could ring again after supper. It is gratifying when the young show an interest without being prompted. I have left the album on the conservatory table, with the relevant pages marked. No point making him wait while I find everything again.
Body
Washed the Rover this morning and spent rather longer on the wheels than intended. Straightening after the last one required a hand on the bonnet, which I would ordinarily prefer not to touch once polished. The back objected for a minute, then settled as I walked round to inspect the finish. I had rolled my sleeves up and could feel cold water inside one cuff all the way to the elbow. Changed the shirt before coffee. My wife asked why I had not used the stool standing three feet away. Because I had been making quite satisfactory progress until she introduced the obvious into the discussion.
