Emotion
dad came to our rehearsal showing without making me promise to go to a football game first and i was embarrassingly happy about it, like i kept checking the back row even though i am the stage manager and have an actual job. afterwards he said the scene changes looked easy. EASY. i know that was supposed to be a compliment but i wanted him to have seen the entire disaster with the table leg and the freshman who forgot his entrance, except obviously the point was that he didn't. he asked if i wanted food on the way home and i told him all of it in the car while he missed the turn for the drive through
Body
got in the pool after rehearsal and for once i wasn't doing lengths or racing my little brother, just standing where the water comes up to my shoulders with my hair getting wet even though i'd said it wouldn't. my left ear was still hot from the headset and there was that dent feeling where it sits, which is ridiculous because the thing barely weighs anything. i could hear the filter instead of people asking whether they're meant to move a chair yet, and my jaw actually felt different when i let my teeth stop touching. then my brother splashed me directly in the face so the peaceful version lasted maybe four minutes
Mind
we're reading a novel in english where everyone keeps not saying the one thing that would explain the problem, and i wrote 'just ask her' in the margin about six times before noticing i have spent two weeks rearranging perfectly normal sentences to the boy who runs our light board. i can tell forty people to be quiet but apparently 'do you want to hang out when we aren't doing a show' needs a committee and several drafts. still think the book could lose eighty pages. i'm not sending anything tonight because he'll see me checking for a reply at rehearsal and then i will actually have to move schools
