Emotion
A woman came for passport photographs and told me I had photographed her when she first went to boarding school. I remembered her mother bringing her, but in my head she was still the small girl refusing to sit straight on the stool. Now she was telling me about her own children. I was very happy to see her, and also surprised by how much time had passed without asking my permission. She laughed when I told her about the stool. After she left I wanted to find the old photograph, though the nephew said we had customers waiting. He was correct. I still told him the story while we worked. Such people are not just another number in the queue.
Mind
My nephew showed me two versions of the same wedding photograph, one with the background lighter. I chose the lighter one and he smiled because I had been complaining about editing only yesterday. I told him there is a difference between making a face visible and changing every colour until the grass looks invented. He agreed too quickly, which makes me suspect he wanted that answer. Been looking at the picture again. The expression was what mattered when I took it, yet I can see it better with his adjustment. I do not want to spend the whole conversation defending something I said before seeing the result. But those green lawns still trouble me.
Body
I walked down to the kiosk carrying only my lunch, the camera bag already there from yesterday, and it was surprising how often my right shoulder rose as if to keep the strap in place. Even without the weight I was behaving as though I had it. Stopped near the bend to greet a neighbour and stood properly, both arms hanging. The morning air was cool but by the market I was warm under my shirt. My wife said I looked as if I had walked very fast. I had not, there were too many people to greet. Took off the tie until the first customer arrived. It is a good tie, but it cannot expect to be comfortable for every hour of the day.
