Body
The kids challenged me to a balance game in the kitchen, one foot down and apparently NO WAVING YOUR ARMS MOM, which was not in the initial briefing. I can carry equipment up stairs all shift but standing still while a ten-year-old makes faces at me is beyond my qualifications. My calf started shaking and I was laughing too hard to hold anything steady. The Quiet One lasted longest and looked unbearably pleased about it. Sat down afterwards and could feel the bottom of my foot working even with both feet flat. Different sort of tired from a run. Lost the contest, requested a review, request denied by both children!!!
Emotion
A coworker brought me lunch without asking me to organise anything, cover anything, or put it on a signup sheet. Just an extra container because she'd made too much. I was weirdly choked about it, told her I'd bring the container back full and she said buddy you can just wash it. Then I got a bit annoyed because yes, obviously, I KNOW HOW LUNCH WORKS. Ate it in the break room and it was terrific. Texted her that. She sent back a thumbs-up, no emotional debrief required. I'm still going to wash that container properly, not the station version of washed where someone runs a spoon under a tap.
Mind
Trying to choose a family film and somehow I've turned it into a vote with eligibility rules because one child keeps nominating things the other has already seen. The Quiet One says seeing a film twice is allowed. I know that, I'm trying to give everybody a fair choice, including ME, which the current procedure has overlooked. At work I can decide quickly when things matter; here I've spent twenty minutes weighing animated animals against a sequel nobody can explain. Beginning to suspect I enjoy running the vote more than I want to watch the film. They have put something on while I've been arguing. Fine. Pass the popcorn.
