Body
Went down the beach with the dogs without a board. Different sort of walk when there's nothing tucked under one arm, shoulders level and both hands free until a kelpie decides a stick needs throwing. Kept it low with the right arm, felt the pull at the top but no need to put a performance on for a dog. The soft sand worked my calves harder than the path. Sat on a dry bit of log and let them carry on. By the time I stood up the sand stuck to the backs of my legs and I was hungry. Good hour out. No waves worth arguing about, just dogs wearing themselves out faster than me.
Mind
Trying to work out how to explain a decent saw cut to the grandson without giving him the same lecture the old bloke gave me. I can see when someone's lining up on the wrong side of the mark before they touch the timber, but telling a kid to look properly doesn't show him what I'm looking at. Drew the line thicker on a scrap, then showed where the waste side was. That made more sense. He's still more interested in the bit that falls off. Reckon next time I'll let him mark a few pieces first and tell me which bit he wants to keep. No point knowing the cut if I don't know what he's making.
Emotion
The potter asked if I'd come along to see another person's exhibition, not shift a shelf or carry boxes, just have a look with her. I said yes and then nearly asked what she needed me for. Didn't, luckily. Enjoyed the afternoon, though there was a bowl I wouldn't have put thirty dollars on, let alone what they wanted. She said I could keep that observation between us. Fair enough. Nice being included in something that doesn't require a tool bag. We had a coffee afterwards and she talked about a glaze for ages. I understood about half. Didn't mind the other half much.
