Emotion
The 10yo asked if I could come to the school thing even though it was during work. I said yes, put it on the calendar, thought that covered it. Later my wife told me he'd been worried I'd send someone else because I was busy. That bothered me more than I expected. I'm good at showing up, or I think I am, and I didn't like the possibility that he couldn't be sure. Also pleased he'd asked me specifically, which is a slightly embarrassing amount of pleasure to take from a school invitation. I told him again at dinner. He wanted to know if we could get burgers afterward. Confirmed.
Body
Walked the dog before the sidewalks heated up and he decided every third driveway needed a full inspection. Normally I'd call that wasted time, but stopping meant I noticed how tight the front of my hips felt after yesterday's marathon at the desk. By the second block I was walking more comfortably, not taking those ridiculous little steps I do after getting out of the car. Came home warm enough to skip the hot coffee for a few minutes and stood barefoot on the kitchen tile. The dog got directly in front of the refrigerator. Apparently his breakfast service window was closing.
Mind
Trying to choose a movie for family night, I checked the running time, the age rating and two parent reviews before realizing I'd spent longer researching it than either kid had spent requesting it. The reviews disagreed about whether it was boring, which is not useful information unless I know what those people find exciting. I kept looking for a reliable answer anyway. My wife has suggested we simply start it and turn it off if it's bad. There is no cancellation fee on our sofa. Sensible proposal, but now I've read enough plot summaries that I may have spoiled the only surprise for myself.
