Emotion
A friend brought back the tool he borrowed and acted like he was doing me a favor by driving over. I was glad to see him until he said I must not have needed it that badly if I'd managed without it. That hurt more than the late return. I had told him exactly when I needed it, and I don't want to spend another evening explaining why my request was reasonable. He was having a rough week, I know that, but I'm still angry. It's strange how quickly I start making his side of the argument for him. Tonight I mostly want to be annoyed without becoming the patient one halfway through. The tool is back on the shelf. I haven't answered his invitation to hang out yet.
Mind
I've read the same section of the plumbing code four times and can remember the example our instructor told us, but not the rule underneath it. I keep wanting to turn studying into an interesting conversation, which is convenient because nobody asks me to remember the numbers during the conversation. Tried covering the page and writing what I knew. Not much, as it turns out. Now I've got three questions on a card by the bed, and they're irritating me because I can see where I guessed. I want to get through this part without needing somebody to make it entertaining first. At the moment I'm writing about it instead of opening the book, so the progress report is mixed.
Body
We watched a movie downstairs and my girlfriend fell asleep with her head against my shoulder. I kept very still because she looked comfortable, then realized my arm had gone almost completely numb. Moving it made that prickling feeling shoot all the way into my fingers. She woke up enough to complain that I was fidgeting, which made us both laugh, and after that we rearranged ourselves like normal people. My chest felt warm and loose in a way it doesn't when I'm trying to keep up on a job. I wasn't waiting for a noise or checking whether anything held. Just sitting there, with popcorn stuck in my sock and my arm slowly coming back to life.
