Emotion
the kid asked if he could take the old blue blanket to college. not whether i would buy him a blanket, the actual one off the couch with the corner coming loose. told him to wait until he knew where he was going before he packed the living room. sounded sharper than i meant. he said fine and went back to his cereal. anyway, i pulled it out of the wash tonight and looked at that corner. i can probably fix it. pleased he wants something from here, annoyed he's already selecting inventory. he hasn't taken the trash out yet, so apparently we still have some time.
Body
sat through the kid's game on the bleachers and found out walking all day does not qualify me for sitting on a metal plank. my feet kept looking for somewhere lower to go, and every time the row stood up i was grateful until i had to sit back down. brought a cushion. left it in the truck, where it provided excellent support for nobody. after halftime i stood by the fence with the other parents. cool air on my calves, enough room to move around. the kid asked afterward if i'd watched. yes. every play. some of them from a different zip code in the same stadium.
Mind
spent most of a loop trying to decide whether to change my fantasy lineup, because the guy everybody says to start is the one i benched last week and i don't enjoy rewarding that kind of timing. i can remember which porch has a loose third step without looking. remembering which player is on which injury report takes three checks and a coworker telling me i'm wrong. wrote the two names on the back of a grocery receipt while parked. now the receipt says milk, trash bags, questionable. which covers the house pretty well. haven't changed anything yet.
