Mind
New hire asked why we photographed an area that looked fine. Started giving him the standard answer, then realized he wasn't arguing, he wanted to understand what we'd compare next time. Fair question. I remember structures so well that I forget the report has to work for somebody who has never stood there. Pulled up two older photos of the same spot; different angles, nearly useless side by side. One of them was mine. So much for the demonstration of superior experience. Going to use those in training anyway. A bad example is still an example, and I'd rather he learn what was missing than memorize how I hold a camera.
Emotion
The goalie waved from the ice after making a save, right toward where I was standing. I nearly yelled something embarrassing, then did yell something embarrassing, so there we are. On the ride home he asked if I'd seen it. Described the whole thing back to him and he grinned at the window. GOOD mood in the car. His sister said I never get that excited about her stuff, which took the air out of me. Told her that wasn't fair, too fast. Been thinking about it since. I don't know half the things she watches or makes. I am proud of her too, but apparently that information has not reached the intended person.
Body
Took Rebar out before the kids got up. No harness, no tool bag, just a dog convinced every squirrel had personally insulted him. My knees were stiff for the first block, then warmed up enough that I stopped negotiating with each curb. Cool air felt good on my face. I could hear the tags on his collar without traffic over my head, though the ringing in my ears was still there underneath. Coming home I sat on the step instead of bending to undo the leash. MUCH better arrangement. He leaned his whole weight against my leg while I scratched his chest. Stayed there longer than planned. Coffee could wait five minutes.
