Бабушка спросила, не обидел ли я опять медсестру, с которой встречаюсь. Формулировка сразу предполагает виновного, что я и сообщил. Она ответила: я не протокол составляю, я спрашиваю. Раздражение было вполне конкретное. Потом она рассказала, как та звонила узнать о её самочувствии, и раздражение стало неудобным: мне никто об этом звонке не сказал. Было приятно, что она помнит про бабушку и звонит сама, не через меня. Написал ей спасибо. Без замечаний к формулировкам. Ответила сердечком, которое я несколько раз открыл, как будто там имелось дополнительное сообщение.

Дома нанесла крем на руки и вдруг заметила, как сильно кожа стянута между пальцами. На работе после санитайзера привыкаю к этому ощущению, а вечером тёплая вода сразу всё напоминает. Сидела, медленно растирала крем, пока Барсик пытался подставить голову под ладонь. Запах ему не понравился, отошёл с видом обманутого клиента. Минут через десять руки стали мягче и теплее, даже иглу держать было приятнее. Вышивала недолго, глаза уже просили света поярче, а мне не хотелось включать большой. Саша смотрел телевизор негромко, я сидела рядом босиком, поджав ноги. Хорошо было просто не стоять, ни на чьи просьбы не поворачивать голову.

One tuition child brought me a drawing of our lesson, with me much taller than the blackboard and all the children looking very obedient. Such fiction! She had put the paper inside her book so it would not fold, and I was touched before she even showed it fully. I keep thinking about the entrance result when people ask what I am doing now, as if this whole year has only that one answer. Today somebody had spent her evening drawing my big teacher head. Mother wanted to show it to a visitor and I said no, then quietly put it where the visitor could see. The child also gave me enormous earrings. Apparently I am fashionable in her version.

Walked along the waterfront after dropping my daughter off and got caught by a southerly that made my ears properly ache. I'd remembered the raincoat and forgotten that it doesn't cover your entire head unless you actually put the hood up. Once I did, I could hear my own breathing and the fabric flapping more than anything outside. Kept walking until I was warm under the coat and cold across the face, an odd but quite good combination. At home the cat climbed onto my legs before I'd taken my shoes off. His weight stopped me fidgeting. I sat there feeling my toes gradually warm up and let the laundry stay in its basket.

中午买了碗冰粉，坐在公园阴凉地方吃，第一口下去牙有点冰，后头就巴适了。刚才在太阳底下浇水，衣服背上湿了一片，坐下来才晓得汗还在往腰那里淌。风一吹有点凉，我把衣服往外扯了两下，不贴着皮肤就好些。吃到最后几粒花生，嘴里全是甜的，本来还想去接杯水，屁股坐稳了又懒得动。腿伸出去，鞋头翘着，脚指头在里面松一下，舒服。手机响了才站起来，裤子膝盖上全是草屑，拍半天还剩几根。回去干活路上太阳又出来了，刚才那个位置倒空着，等下午有空我还想去坐一会儿。

Mi hija salió de su cuarto con unos aretes míos que yo creía olvidados y preguntó si podía usarlos el sábado. Primero me dio gusto, hasta que dijo que ahora se usaban esas cosas de antes. De antes, pues, tampoco los compré hace un siglo. Nos reímos, pero después me quedé un poco sensible, mirándola frente al espejo. Le quedan distintos que a mí y me gusta verla escoger algo de mis cosas sin que yo tenga que insistir. Le iba a preguntar con quién salía y a qué hora, todo seguido, como siempre. Me aguanté un momento más para que no pareciera que los aretes venían con interrogatorio.

A sister at the masjid mentioned another man she thinks I should meet, and I was polite until she said I shouldn't get too comfortable alone. That irritated me more than the introduction. I have a son, parents, a job where somebody is calling my name before dawn; comfortable is not exactly the word for it. I know she means well. I am still allowed to dislike being treated like an unfinished arrangement. Told my mother about it and she asked whether I'd actually like to meet him. I said I hadn't got that far because I was busy being annoyed. She laughed. I didn't mind her laughing, which is how I know I wasn't mad at everybody.

Для дачи выбираю новую лейку. Старая течёт по шву, надоела. Смотрю объём, десять литров вроде лучше, реже ходить, потом прикинул расстояние от бочки и вспомнил, что жена тоже ей пользуется. Две маленькие нести ровнее, чем одну большую в одной руке, но хранить надо две. Отец сказал запаять старую. Он любую покупку начинает с этого предложения. Пока померил полку, куда лейка должна вставать, и записал размеры. В магазине все на вид одинаковые, дома почему-то потом не помещаются. Возьму поменьше, если ручка будет удобная, иначе ещё посмотрю.

Des amis m'ont proposé de déjeuner avec eux dimanche, en précisant qu'il ne fallait surtout pas que je reste seule. J'avais envie d'accepter jusqu'à cette précision. J'ai répondu que je regarderais mon agenda, lequel ne contient absolument rien ce jour-là. Leur intention est bonne, je le sais, et pourtant je me suis sentie diminuée, comme si ma présence servait à accomplir une bonne action. Bernard aurait trouvé que je cherchais une complication là où l'on m'offrait un repas. Il n'aurait pas eu tout à fait tort. Je vais probablement les rappeler. Il me faut seulement laisser passer cette contrariété pour ne pas leur faire payer une phrase un peu maladroite.

I'm rewriting one paragraph of the fantasy league rules because two people managed to interpret the same deadline differently, and now every clearer sentence seems to create a different loophole. The roommate says nobody reads nine pages. Fine, then why argue with the commissioner about what they say? I could shorten it to a date and a time, but somebody will claim they thought it meant their time zone. We're all in the same one except one guy, who was actually on time. I know exactly what needs to happen; apparently explaining it requires more words than running the entire waiver process.
