بیٹی کے بچے آئے تو چھوٹے نے اپنی کھلونا گاڑی میرے سامنے رکھ کر کہا کہ نانا یہ ٹھیک کر دیں گے۔ پہیہ صرف اٹکا ہوا تھا، دو منٹ کا کام، لیکن اس کا یقین دیکھ کر خوشی ہوئی۔ میں نے سمجھانا شروع کیا کہ رکاوٹ کہاں تھی، وہ گاڑی لے کر فرش پر چلا چکا تھا۔ ظاہر ہے اسے نتیجے سے غرض تھی، تقریر سے نہیں۔ پھر بھی اس نے جاتے ہوئے دوبارہ بتایا کہ اب گاڑی سیدھی چلتی ہے۔ یہ بات بیگم کو بتائی تو انہوں نے کہا آپ کو مرمت کا معاوضہ مل گیا۔ میں نے جواب نہیں دیا، مگر بات درست تھی۔ شام تک گاڑی کے ننھے پہیوں کا خیال آتا رہا۔

Pool at 7:00. The first steps into the water were cold, as usual, but my knees moved more freely once we started. I could turn and step sideways without planning each foot. Fifty minutes passed quickly. The skin on my arms felt tight afterward, so I used the lotion before dressing instead of leaving it for home. My husband had coffee ready when I returned. I sat down to drink it while my hair was still damp at the back. He asked whether the class had been difficult. Not difficult. Useful, and pleasant. There is no need to make every form of exercise sound like a disciplinary hearing.

my sister asked me to come look at something she made for school and i said in a minute, then actually went before she had to ask again
she had cleared a space for me on her floor which was weirdly nice, usually i get invited in and have to move seven things just to stand
she wanted my opinion on the pictures, not help fixing anything
i stayed longer than i meant to and felt pretty good after
then mom asked if that meant i could help with another thing tomorrow and i got annoyed immediately
idk why being wanted is nice until it turns into being scheduled

Beim Kegeln lief die erste Kugel sauber und ich hab gleich gedacht heute geht wat. Dritte Runde meldet der Rücken sich, nicht schlimm, aber deutlich genug dass ich den Anlauf kürzer gemacht hab. Vatter meinte ich werde vorsichtig. Ja woll, nennt sich dazulernen, kannste auch mal versuchen! Danach saß ich auf der Bank und merkte erst wie warm mir geworden war, Jacke aus und die Hände um ein kaltes Glas. Andere Bewegung als auf der Tour, tut trotzdem gut. Beim Schuhewechsel kam ich wieder schlecht an die Ferse, der tolle sportliche Abschluss. Hab trotzdem besser gespielt als Vatter. Rücken eins, Tochter zwei, zählt alles.

My wife put two pictures of places by the ocean in front of me and asked which one I'd rather visit. I started asking about parking, driving time, what we'd do if it rained. She said we could simply be there. Trying to get my head around that. A week that isn't built around a job or seeing somebody or getting something picked up. The pictures both look good. I can imagine sitting with her watching the water, then I start calculating how many days before I'd be checking the weather back home. She didn't ask me to promise I'd enjoy every minute. Just asked which place. Still haven't answered properly.

Bei den Bienen kann ich eine Weile zusehen, ohne sofort etwas ändern zu müssen. Merkwürdig, dass mir das im Haus so selten gelingt. Meine Frau erzählt von einer Schwierigkeit und ich bin mit einem Vorschlag da, bevor sie den zweiten Satz beendet hat. Am Stock würde ich mir sagen, erst beobachten, nicht unnötig stören. Beim Abendessen habe ich daran gedacht und nichts gesagt, als sie über eine Bekannte schimpfte. Darauf fragte sie, ob ich überhaupt zuhöre. Offenbar war mein konzentriertes Schweigen auch nicht die richtige Antwort. Wir mussten beide lachen. Ich habe dann gefragt, was die Bekannte genau gesagt hatte, und bekam eine ziemlich ausführliche Auskunft.

O pai chama dois pedaços da lavoura pelo mesmo nome, só muda o lado pra onde aponta, e pra ele nunca houve confusão. No aplicativo isso vira dois lotes iguais na lista e o funcionário escolhe o primeiro. Eu vinha querendo que ele mudasse os nomes, ele queria que eu prestasse atenção no dedo, os dois convencidos. Hoje pensei em mostrar a foto junto do nome, pelo menos pra testar com ele. Não resolve todo caso e ainda preciso ver como fica sem sinal, mas pode ser mais fácil que ensinar meu pai a falar diferente aos setenta e um anos. Falei da ideia no almoço e ele disse que já tinha explicado aquilo. Claro, sô, faltava eu descobrir em qual frase.

Au hammam avec ma sœur, j'ai passé un bon moment à laisser l'eau couler sur mes mains avant de commencer le reste. L'encre finit par partir, mais la peau reste sèche aux jointures, comme si j'avais encore du papier entre les doigts. La chaleur m'a ramolli les épaules et j'ai arrêté de tenir mon dos aussi droit que derrière le comptoir. Ma sœur parlait, j'écoutais sans préparer une réponse, surtout occupée à sentir mes pieds posés sur le sol chaud. En sortant j'avais soif, une vraie soif, pas l'envie de reprendre un thé par habitude. J'ai bu lentement et laissé mes cheveux humides dans la serviette. Pour une fois, pas de client au milieu du geste.

Measured a space for a box to hold my son's toys and made a neat drawing, then realised the box would fit the corner but not open fully under the shelf. The measurements were right. The idea was incomplete. I had checked width and height and forgotten the lid needs somewhere to go. My wife suggested no lid, which removes the problem but leaves the toys visible. She says they are toys, not evidence. I am considering it. A simple open box might actually be easier for him to use, and I would rather he put things away than admire my drawing. Need to measure the shelf again before buying anything. The cardboard version is already full of cars.

My son in Cape Town phoned to ask how long the rice takes, then stayed on while it cooked. No emergency, no money required, just him opening cupboards and reporting that he had bought too many tomatoes. I was ridiculously pleased. Put him on speaker while I folded washing and managed not to turn the whole call into questions about his eating and sleeping. Nearly managed. When he said he should go before everything burnt, I said yes, go, and kept folding the same towel. The house was perfectly normal afterwards. A bit quiet, that's all.
