سطر_مل_گئی Mind

قصبے کی زبانی تاریخ ریکارڈ کرنے کے لیے سوال لکھ رہا تھا۔ پہلے ہی سوال میں تین تاریخیں اور دو اداروں کے نام آ گئے۔ اس طرح تو گفتگو سے پہلے امتحان شروع ہو جائے گا۔ میں چاہتا ہوں لوگ اپنی یاد بتائیں، لیکن غلط سن سنتے ہی انہیں روک بھی دیتا ہوں۔ اگر شروع میں ہی درست کرتا رہا تو شاید وہ آگے بولنا چھوڑ دیں۔ بہتر ہے پہلے پوری بات سنوں، پھر الگ سے پوچھوں کہ اس واقعے کے آس پاس اور کیا ہوا تھا۔ اصل ریکارڈ سے ملانے کا کام بعد میں ہو سکتا ہے۔ اب فہرست مختصر کی ہے۔ پہلا سوال صرف یہ ہے کہ وہ اس بازار میں پہلی بار کب اور کس کے ساتھ آئے تھے۔

turnaround Mind

A young operator asked why I write down a check even on a quiet night, and I almost gave him the answer about procedure and left it there. Been thinking I should have explained it better. Quiet nights look alike after a few in a row; remembering that you checked something isn't always remembering which night you did it. I learned to trust what I can verify because my confidence used to run ahead of my judgment. That's more personal than I generally get at work, but he wasn't trying to skip anything, he was asking. Next time we have a minute I'll tell him the part that might help, without turning his question into my whole life story.

смотрел как батя меняет колесо и вспомнил вопрос с физики про длинный рычаг, я его решил в тетради но тут реально видно почему длинной штукой легче крутить чем короткой. спросил почему тогда все ключи не делают огромными, он сказал попробуй такой везде засунуть и дал подержать. вот это норм объяснение, сразу понял. теперь думаю что в учебнике надо сначала показывать где оно вообще нужно, а потом буквы писать, я бы даже литературу так попробовал если бы там дали сначала хоть что-то сделать. хотя читать сто страниц про чужую комнату всё равно не хочу

crosscheck Mind

I've been looking at next month's trip choices trying to make international flying and a proper stretch at home happen on the same schedule. Apparently I would like the airline to run around my personal growth. I keep putting the exciting routes first, then counting what I'd miss if I got them, and moving everything back. There isn't some perfect bid hiding in there if I stare another hour. I used to think getting more senior would mean knowing what I wanted, but it mostly means getting more versions of the question. I saved the one with two weekends free, then opened it again to check the destinations.

nyanyi di warung tadi kebanyakan gaya, lagunya belum habis napas sudah minta istirahat wkwk. Padahal kalau duduk di bus bisa nyanyi panjang, rupanya berdiri sambil goyang itu beda urusan. Leher panas dan jilbab rasanya rapat sekali, jadi habis lagu aku keluar sebentar kena angin, minum air bukan kopi dulu. Teman-teman manggil minta satu lagu lagi, aku bilang artis juga punya jadwal istirahat lho. Duduk lima menit kaki enak lagi tapi suara sudah agak serak. Sampai rumah ibu tanya habis kerja apa habis hajatan, jawabku dua-duanya capeknya sama, terus beliau ketawa lihat aku masih ikut lagu dari telepon

backstop Mind

One of the kids asked how I know a runner might go before he starts moving. I said you watch his feet, then remembered I watch his shoulders too, and where his coach is looking. Tried explaining all that and made it sound harder than it is. Now I'm thinking I should have stood him behind the plate and let him tell me what he saw. The first answer would probably be wrong, but at least it would be his answer. I can remember a pitcher from fifty years ago shifting his weight before every throw. Can't remember anybody teaching me to notice. Somebody must have. I could be wrong about that too.

ladlehook Emotion

My son said he would be home for dinner and was late. I checked my phone several times. There was no message, and I began thinking about the journey rather than eating. He arrived with groceries and said the bus had been delayed. I told him to send a message next time. He said he had not realised I was waiting. I had left his food covered on the stove, so I suppose I was. The irritation went quickly once he was in the kitchen. We ate and watched television. I did not ask much about his day because I had already asked enough questions at the door. I was relieved. That is the accurate word for it.

表妹非拉我去海边走走，说我每天嘴上喊累腿还不肯停，我说走路不也是累吗，她不管，拽着就走了，结果风一吹真挺舒服，厂服袖子卷起来，手臂上那些小疤都晒着，没人在旁边催我接杯子。走到沙子里鞋就灌了，蹲下来倒了三回，后来干脆拿在手里，脚底踩到湿沙凉得我叫出声，她说你能不能小点声哈哈哈。回来上楼才觉得腿沉，肚子饿得咕咕响，不是想喝点什么，就是想吃一大碗热面，坐着慢慢吃那种。面端上来我又吃快了，习惯这个东西真改不了，汤还烫着呢人已经出汗了。

Je regarde des idées de voyage en train avec ma femme, mais je m'aperçois que je choisis surtout les endroits où on peut arriver sans se lever à quatre heures. Elle veut voir des choses, moi aussi, après un petit déjeuner tranquille de préférence. Notre fille nous a envoyé une liste tellement longue qu'on pourrait partir trois semaines. Nous avons quelques jours. J'ai proposé de choisir une ville et de rester dedans, pas de changer d'hôtel chaque soir pour faire des photos de valises. Ma femme est d'accord, pour une fois nous n'avons pas discuté longtemps. Maintenant il faut choisir la ville. On a remis ça à demain, le thé était prêt et rien n'était réservé.

The great-granddaughter sent a picture of her latest patchwork. One corner was wrong and she had already circled it before sending it to me. I wished, quite suddenly, that she were here at the table, wrong corner and all. A picture is a good thing to receive, but I wanted to see the expression she makes when she decides a seam is not worth unpicking. I know that expression. I wrote that the colours pleased me and asked whether she liked it herself. Then I showed the picture to my daughter, who had already seen it. I showed her again at supper. Considerable pleasure in a small, crooked square, and no particular need to conceal it.
