Je suis rentré assez tôt pour aller marcher avec ma femme, et au début j'avais encore la forme du siège dans le dos, vous voyez, cette raideur quand on se redresse après avoir attendu longtemps à l'aéroport. Elle marchait plus vite que moi et je lui ai demandé de ralentir, puis au bout d'un moment c'est moi qui prenais de l'avance. L'air était doux, je sentais mes bras bouger librement et ça me faisait du bien de regarder devant sans surveiller les rétroviseurs. En revenant j'avais faim, une vraie faim de dîner, pas l'envie de grignoter derrière le volant. Les jambes étaient lourdes mais le dos beaucoup moins. On a mangé avec la fenêtre ouverte.

A college friend sent photos of her new house in the US, including this kitchen with space to turn around without negotiating with another person. I was genuinely happy for her and also immediately, embarrassingly jealous. Not even of the whole life, just that space and the confidence with which she said they'd finally settled. My first reply was all hearts and congratulations, then I kept looking at the pictures while our pressure cooker went off. My husband asked what was so interesting. I said kitchen storage, which was technically true. I don't want to move tomorrow, but I wanted to feel that someone else's good news wasn't exposing my own restlessness.

В доме культуры мальчик из театрального кружка оставил для меня приглашение на их спектакль. Написал моё имя, а не просто дежурной. Мне стало так приятно, что я сначала убрала бумажку в журнал, чтобы никто не начал шутить. Потом всё-таки достала и сфотографировала сестре. Она спросила, пойду ли я, и тут выяснилось, что как раз моя смена, то есть я опять буду у входа, пока они выступают. Обидно немного. Попросить коллегу подменить на час можно, но неудобно из-за детского спектакля. Хотя мальчик сказал, что у него большая роль, и я уже пообещала постараться. Приглашение забрала домой, в журнале бы помялось.

Había estado toda la mañana mirando fotos en la pantalla y luego nos hemos sentado justo donde daba el aire de la terraza. Al volver me he lavado las manos, me las he quitado y he salido con las gafas puestas aunque tenía todo el maquillaje marcado por debajo. Qué descanso poder parpadear sin estar pendiente. Mi novio me ha dicho que me veía igual. Vale, pero yo ya estaba pensando en los ojos más que en lo que me contaba.

one of the quiet regulars said she had been having a bad day and came to my lane because she knew id talk to her, which is honestly so sweet until i started worrying about what to say and suddenly forgot every word i have ever used lol. i asked about her dog and she showed me a picture of him on her clean laundry, criminal behaviour, we agreed. i felt really good after she left, then the next customer was irritated about waiting and the whole mood changed in two seconds. like yes i know there is a line, i can see the line. still thinking about the dog lady though, i hope she got home okay.

Für den Campingurlaub schaue ich gerade Plätze an, aber bei jedem kommt mein Freund mit einer anderen Strecke, die auch schön wäre. Mich stört das gar nicht, nur irgendwann muss man wissen, ob wir einen kleinen Urlaub oder eine Rundreise durch sämtliche verfügbaren Duschräume planen. Ich würde die erste Nacht buchen und dann sehen, wie voll es ist. Er möchte lieber alles fest haben, sonst fährt er im Kopf schon ohne Schlafplatz im Kreis. Vielleicht buchen wir zwei feste Stationen und lassen dazwischen Luft. Hauptsache, wir prüfen beide denselben Kalender. Unser erster gemeinsamer Entwurf hatte zwei verschiedene Wochen.

J'ai renoncé à courir et marché le long du Rhône avec une amie qui ne mesure jamais ses trajets. Nous nous sommes arrêtées trois fois, pour regarder quelque chose ou simplement parce que la conversation s'y prêtait. Mon genou ne chauffait pas ; je sentais surtout l'air frais sur les poignets, entre les manches et les mains. J'avais oublié mes gants. Au retour, une faim assez franche a remplacé l'envie de vérifier la distance parcourue. J'ai tout de même regardé : moins que prévu, davantage de temps dehors. Les chaussures n'étaient pas humides et je n'avais aucun étirement à négocier avec moi-même.

I lost my place during morning prayer because I was thinking about a label check at work. The words kept coming from memory while another part of my mind was counting cartons. I went back to the part I'd missed and then started wondering how far I'd gone without really attending. That is not a question I can answer by checking a box. Dadi says distraction is hardly a new invention, which made me smile. I don't want to turn prayer into another test I can fail before five in the morning. Still, tomorrow I might leave the work notes in my bag instead of beside me. The cartons can wait until I actually reach them.

En conduisant une voiture du parc jusqu'au lavage, j'ai remarqué que je desserrais les dents à chaque expiration, comme si j'avais attendu de quitter le bureau pour laisser ma bouche tranquille. La vitre était entrouverte, l'air arrivait sur le côté de mon cou et refroidissait le col humide de ma chemise. Je n'avais pourtant reçu qu'un client ce matin. Au feu rouge, j'ai bougé les épaules contre le dossier, puis j'ai cessé de les surveiller pendant quelques minutes. C'est surtout au retour, en voyant le showroom, que j'ai senti mon ventre se resserrer. La route n'avait rien de particulier ; j'aurais simplement aimé qu'elle soit plus longue.

Ada orang tua murid parkir tepat di depan gerbang, sudah diminta geser malah bilang cuma sebentar. Anak-anak harus lewat samping motornya dan saya yang mengatur satu-satu, dia tetap lihat ponsel. Mangkel rasanya, seperti suara saya cuma bunyi tambahan di halaman. Saya tidak bentak, tapi setelah dia pergi masih ngomel sendiri di ruang alat. Yang bikin tambah kesal, kalau guru yang keluar menegur biasanya langsung dituruti. Mungkin bukan karena seragam, entahlah, hari ini saya merasa begitu. Kopi sampai dingin belum diminum. Nanti sore kalau dia datang lagi saya tetap minta parkir di tempatnya, bukan karena mau menang, ya karena gerbangnya memang bukan tempat motor.
